About Us

Tops and trousers, kept in proportion

What we do

ERIC JAMES MORGAN RICHEY is a small clothing label based in Higginsville, Missouri. We work on one problem only: the top half and the bottom half of an outfit that have to agree. Our rail holds five tops, three trousers and a set of proportions that repeat, so a knit bought this season will sit with a pair of trousers bought next season. We are not interested in a new silhouette every month. We are interested in a shoulder that falls where it should and a waistband that stays on the waist, which is why our range is short and the notes on each page are detailed.

The fit we keep returning to

Most of our tops are cut slim through the body with room at the sleeve, because that is the shape that layers under a jacket without bunching. Necklines are drafted to sit flat rather than gape, and armholes are tested on three body types before a pattern is signed off. Our trousers are mid or natural rise, with a straight or flare leg that clears the shoe. We measure the rise, the inseam and the hip on every sample and publish all three, because the same size number means different things in different factories, and guessing is how returns happen.

Cloth that behaves

Corduroy, velour, cotton poplin and fine-gauge knits make up most of the collection. We choose them for how they behave after five washes rather than how they look on a hanger: corduroy that keeps its wale, velour that does not flatten at the seat, cotton that holds a press. Stretch is used where it is needed and left out where it is not, so a waistband recovers instead of sagging by the afternoon. Each garment is worn for a full day before it is approved, and the care label tells you what the cloth needs rather than what is convenient to print.

How ordering works

We pack and post from Higginsville on business days, usually within one to two days of your order. Messages come to us directly and we answer them ourselves, Monday to Friday, nine to five. Returns are accepted for thirty days on unworn pieces with their tags, and we refund the price you paid once the parcel is back with us. If a garment arrives damaged or is not what the page described, send a photograph within forty-eight hours and we will put it right at our cost. If you are between sizes, write to us with your measurements first. Five minutes on a message is better than a parcel posted back.
